Liz Bywater, PhD, Contributes to Newly Released Book: Creatively Self-Employed

Author:  Press Release
Date:  March 06, 2007

Liz Bywater, PhD, has been quoted in the newly released book, "Creatively Self-Employed: How Writers and Artists Deal with Career Ups and Downs," by Kristen Fischer. Fischer's book explores the myriad experiences and challenges faced by creatives who venture into the world of self-employment. The book includes input from writers, artists, and work and career experts.

Bywater's contributions center around the social and emotional demands of self-employment. These include: being able to tolerate financial uncertainties and anxieties; striking a healthy balance between business and leisure; seeking support and encouragement from friends, family, and peers; and combating the feelings of loneliness and isolation that can lead to depression and anxiety.

"Make it a priority," says Bywater, "to strike a healthy work/life balance. You should be engaging in social activities, family time, self-care, and physical activity on a regular basis. Each day should leave some room for non-work related activities."

Bywater is the founder and president of Bywater Consulting Group, LLC, a Philadelphia-based consulting firm focused on helping clients improve individual and organizational performance. She consults, writes, and speaks on a variety of workplace topics. She has been quoted most recently in the New York Times, Executive Decisions magazine, and on Yahoo!HotJobs.
